CONSTRUCTION

KS3 & KS4

At KS3 students within our core provision receive two 60 minute lessons of Construction a week if they choose it The course is designed to give students who may have an interest in Construction a taster of the courses on offer at KS4 and to help prepare students for their step up to KS4. It also ensures that all of our students learn the skills they will need to live independent lives in the future.

At KS4 students within our core provision 8.30 – 1.30 receive lessons of Construction as part of their option choices. The course is designed to give students the opportunity to achieve a recognised qualification in Construction and to help prepare students for their step up to further education and training. It also ensures that all of our students learn the skills they will need to live independent lives in the future.

The Park Education Support Centre is working in partnership with Building1Zone to offer back to basic construction training which will give students/young people an insight into a variety of building trades. It is intended that this opportunity will provide a platform to assist in selecting a career path for young people.

Construction offers students/young people from an early age the opportunity to learn the basics of trades such as Plumbing, Decorating, Tiling, Carpentry, Bricklaying and Plastering which are all covered during the “Taster” and “BTEC qualifications” courses. The purpose built modules allows small groups hands on training in each subject.  

EDEXCEL BTEC LEVEL 1 CONSTRUCTION COURSES – AWARD – CERTIFICATE – EXTENDED CERTIFICATE are all available and successful results continue to evolve year on year.

AIMS:

* Students/young people will have the opportunity to try each trade which will enable them to find out if the construction industry is for them and if so, what trade suits their ability and interest

* At the end of the course the students will have developed the skills to learn in a group, to widen their organisational skills, to understand time-management in attending regularly and on time and complete necessary coursework

* To have completed a course appropriate to individual needs abilities and qualifications

* To recognise their preferred learning styles and to have an awareness of further opportunities for learning given by the provider and Further Education institutions locally

Assessments of each trade are carried out by Building1Zone staff and will be issued to the students’ tutors.
