DUCKLINGS COME HOME!

In June we had some special visitors arrive at school, 6 little duck eggs. Students were able to watch the eggs hatch whilst at school and also on a live stream at home, which they all thoroughly enjoyed. Once the ducklings were all hatched, they were moved to their cage where they stayed for 9 days.  We enjoyed lots of cuddles, watching them pitter-patter about on the floor and enjoy a little bath in the classroom! Students enjoyed completing some scientific and mathematical investigations with them, by measuring their height and weight, making predictions and watching them as they quickly grew.

We could not believe they had tripled their weight and doubled their height in just a week! We also couldn't believe how much mess they made with their water and how much poo they produced!

We were sad to see them go last Friday, but happy in the knowledge they were going to join many other ducklings on a free range farm, where they will be well looked after. The experience offered the students a great cross curricular learning experience in Science, Maths, Art and also PSHE, as they learnt how to care for the ducklings whilst they were with us.

The students all recorded their experiences and you can see two of the accounts on the website below.
